SELFE was originally developed at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), through its NSF Science and Technology Center for Coastal Margin Observation & Prediction (CMOP). SELFE development is now a community activity, coordinated by OHSU and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS). Primary developers at OHSU and VIMS are:
