Week 7: New Images and Challenges

Tuesday, 07/22/14:
    I had a meeting with Karen and we discussed where next to focus. We came to a conclusion that we needed to figure out the time frame of mitosis, and add a second cell type to our model. The second type will be the embryonic mesoderm. We also need to set the domain in a candy cane shape for PGCs to divide from 6 to 45, where everything starts to grow around those cells. Protecting the PGCs is the embryonic mesoderm. When 8.5 dpc occurs, the 40-45 cells start to migrate. Also, I need to run the simulations in 2D for speed, and to read what Matt had emailed to me about the path.

    I continued working on what Karen and I covered in yesterday’s meeting.

Thursday, 07/10/14
    In a this day’s meeting with Karen, Matt was here to show is what he had found from his research about ovarian development in mice. Matt showed us a images of day 7 and day 12 and discussed with us about what parts there are within these images. Here is the image:

Friday, 07/11/14
    In a this day’s meeting with Karen, she suggested that I use CellDraw to create an environment that looks similar to the images that Matt had presented to us the day before. What I need to do is start with six cells and have them grow and divide into ~45 cells. This process will be surrounded by a extra embryonic mesoderm. At this point, learning how to use CellDraw is difficult; but, if we can figure out hoe to use it, it can help us tremendously to simulating the next stages.
