Week 4 - The Never-Ending To-Do List

Wow, week four already; my time here is just flying by.  This week started with going over my data analysis with one of my mentors.  We compared my analysis with the known composition of the samples themselves to see if there was noticeable agreement.  I also tried to look for seasonal patterns in my statistical analysis of some water samples over about a year’s time.  I have been utilizing my PCA MATLAB code to its fullest and have developed another code which graphically displays the variance, a result of executing PCA

A high school intern came on Thursday and she will be working on this project with me.  The current thought is that she will be responsible for running the experiments on the water samples and then I will statistically work with all the data that is produced.

With the submission of a proposal lingering right around the corner, it is essential that I fully establish the statistical analysis procedures.  My to-do list just keeps growing.  Because we are looking to my analysis to explain what we see in the samples, it is imperative that I determine what analysis should be done, what variables to focus on, how to qualitatively and quantitatively describe my results, etc.  At this point, my analysis is looking promising, but come next week, that won’t be enough.
