Starting the Great Work
Tuesday: Continued reading the 7th annual report, had about a 1-hour meeting with mentor, Charles Seaton, about preparing for the final paper and poster. Then, we covered the background of CMOP that was specific to my project. Eventually, started reading in the Appendix E: 2011 CMOP Integrated Research Plan.
Wednesday: Started looking into the websites received from mentor regarding Python and symbolic regression, Python genetic programming modules, and genetic programming; background on the Columbia River Treaty; COLUMBIA RIVER TREATY, 2014/2024 REVIEW, ESTUARY REPORT; Powerpoint on Iteration #2 Results of Estuary Sub Group of the Ecosystem-Based Function Work Group (SELFE and Delft3D), Word document on Columbia River Treaty 2014/2024 Review: Preliminary Iteration #2 Alternatives and Components, and evolutionary algorithms in Python. Created and organized text files and web links of research, had a short meeting with mentor, started reading about genetic engineering.
Thursday: Looked at Virtual Columbia River, then wathced videos about Columbia River Treaty.
Friday: Continued watching videos about the Columbia River Treaty and took notes on them.
I got to see the facility, and meet the first round of interns, other mentors, rest of faculty and staff. I've had positive and productive meetings with my mentor and I am feeling very good about the work performed at the rivers, esturaries and area of Pacific close by - I feel like I'm doing something important for the world. Lots of reading but still able to hang out with my Heritage U. schoolmates and other interns where I am staying. Looking foward to a new week and the next set of interns to arrive. This has been a great start.
