Week 4 - More DNA Extractions

This week I was working by myself most of the time because Suzanne was out of town.  It was exciting that I had learned all these new skills and how to use the equipment and now I could go and use all I had learned by myself in the lab.  I extracted the DNA from the rest of the samples we took in Astoria but ran into some trouble and will have to redo one of the exptractions next week.  This week I also did alot of research on my project so that I will be prepared for my practice presentations on July 14th.  This will be a good way for me to practice presenting my project and answering questions that people may have during my presentations.

On Monday and Tuesday, I worked the majority of the time in the lab expect during the lab meetings.  On Wednesday and Thursday I spent most of the time on the computer and reading articles that related to my project.  I looked up information on the carbon cycle and the nitrogen cycle as they related to my project.

On Thursday night, a few of the interns and mentors went to the Timbers Soccer game at PGE park.  It was a fun time to get to know more of the mentors and hang out with the interns.  I really enjoy the time I get to spend with the interns.  Everyone is so friendly and there are so many great personalities.  I am really glad that all the interns have gotten along so well.

I also wanted to thank Vikki for helping me so much when I had problems or questions during the week.  She was so helpful and patient with me when I was not sure on something.  This week went really well for me and I can't wait to continue looking at my DNA with Suzanne when she returns next week!!
