So there goes the summer! Time here at CMOP went too fast; it seems like just yesterday I was moving into the apartments down the road from campus and feeling anxious for day one of this internship. My time here has been packed with science, mathematics, and nonstop fun.
This week has been a lot of paper writing, folder organizing, and wrapping up last minute things. I have finished creating my final presentation, written my final paper, handed over my CMOP materials to me mentors, and said one last goodbye to Oregon.
Looking back at my CMOP experience I have nothing but good things to say. I have greatly enjoyed this internship experience and I know it has taught me much. I have been able to take part in lab meetings, which gave me a good sense of other people’s projects and a real world lab environment outside of the classroom. The statistics and mathematics I have been working with this summer have greatly strengthened my application of different kinds of analysis and I have learned many new things along the way. I had the privilege of seeing an abundance of Oregon with the different field trips and intern excursions. The interns I have been working with are a wonderful group of people from all around the country and it’s been very interesting to hear about their summer projects. I have been able to expand beyond just what I’m doing and make big picture connections between other projects. CMOP has truly made me feel welcomed into such a fantastic program with a fun summer internship and excellent mentors. It has been the perfect seasoning of independence and guidance and I have loved every minute of this summer.
Rather than just talk about my experience, I thought it would be a good idea to sum up my time here at CMOP in a rap:
Walking into to work, nothing to sweat
Brushing off my shoulders time to pay off that debt
Summer time’s here, internship’s come
No time to be lazy, so much work to be done
Vanessa found us all, she clearly had a hunch
Strangers on day one now look at this bunch
We’ve come from everywhere, very different states
But clearly CMOP was in all our fates
With field trips galore and places to be
Everywhere we turn there’s something new to see
Oregon’s been weird ever since day one
But taking it all in is just part of the fun
With trips to the beach and Bonneville Dam
We’ve really grown into the CMOP fam
Harry Potter was a night filled with British wit
And Rock of Ages was a hike we just couldn’t quit
From Astoria, to bowling, to OHSU
We made the time to work and even hit up the zoo
This summer’s been filled with lots of bonding times
Now here’s my shout out, and of course it rhymes
CMOPterns roll call:
We’ve got Kevin, Connor, Nathan, and Doug
The men of the group, they think they’re so thug
Cynthia, Althea, and Meagan are a team
Saving lamprey and salmon is their one and only dream
Melissa and Sheedra came straight from graduation
Joining us at CMOP for a research celebration
Natalie, Ma’Chesha, Kristina, and oh me too
Come together to complete the 2011 intern crew
There’s the 13 that make up this pack
Yeah west campus, now that’s where it’s at
